Questionnaire

In case the Institution / Organization / Authority you work for has implemented in the past any information campaign among the rural population for the prevention of Avian Influenza, we would appreciate your response to the following questionnaire (in pdf form) regarding the existing circumstances in your country.

The specific questionnaire addresses mainly to field experts in human or veterinary Public health, Risk Communication and Health Promotion which have actively participated in the design and implementation of relevant campaigns in rural areas of EU member states. Nevertheless, if through your involvement with similar activities from a different post (e.g. Policy-making, Farmers' Associations, Local authorities, Hygiene Inspections) you have dealt with some of the issues brought up in the questionnaire, your contribution would be most welcome as long as your expertise is clearly defined in the specific field.

Our primary objective, is to investigate whether certain practices and types of behaviour which are considered as potential risk factors for the transmission of Avian Influenza to humans, are employed within the daily routine of average families in rural areas of Europe, especially since that kind of practices may vary significantly between different regions.

Information pertaining to this kind of rural life characteristics though, is usually hard to find, as due to practical difficulties
relevant data are rarely  recorded by official statistics and indicators (e.g backyard poultry, cooking practices). Therefore, the testimony of field experts who deal with the rural population and it's everyday concerns, is valuable for a more comprehensive approach to rural life charcteristics and their potential contribution to the risk for AI transmission to humans.
